MUSIC MONDAY :: TUPAC

I can clearly remember the first time I listened to Tupac's music. The track was "Cant C me" , and when I first heard it I just felt like jumping on the table, grabbing my nuts and sticking my middle finger in the air. How old was I at that time? I must have been in elementary school, second or third grad perhaps. I would borrow my aunts c.d player and take it to school without her knowing. When I wasn't doing my English homework or kicking ass at kickball I was listening to Pac's music. My classmates did not care for it at all, they just heard an angry man yelling bad words.

I wanted to learn more about hip hop, about music, but I had no one who could teach me. That was until our after school program got high school kids to tutor us. They all seemed so cool and smart, all I wanted to do was hang out with them and learn. There was one guy who gave me hip-hop mix tapes, and this girl who taught me the truth about Christopher Columbus. That last one really got me in trouble when Christopher Columbus day came around at school. My teacher had all these activities planned out for us but I refused to do any of them. She yelled at me for being a brat and assumed I was just being lazy. I yelled at her in return and explained how I was not going to make any macaroni boats in dedication to a man who did not even discover America and murdered innocent people to steal everything they had. She just sent me to the principles office.

This was also around the time I realized I couldn't strongly relate too much with kids my age, but that is a story for another time.
